BRIANNA RICKSON
I am a self-taught potter and have been working with clay for more than 25 years. My work is primarily wheel thrown with my main focus being functional works for the last 5 years. I love the idea of someone taking home something I have made and using it in their daily lives.
It’s nice to be able to touch people’s lives in a small way.
I had always enjoyed doing clay in my childhood during school but had no real interest in working with clay beyond that until I got a job working in the shipping department of a clay manufacturer in 1995.
I was immediately amazed by all the possibilities and how limitless working with clay is. I have been working with it ever since, sometimes obsessively producing both decorative and functional works.
MY PROCESS
The main body of my work is wheel thrown stoneware though I occasionally do porcelain and earthenware pieces. I mainly fire in electric kilns but love to do wood gas/reduction firings when I can.
